Fitting Iraivan Temple's Sanctum Doors

Jai Ganesha!

Recently the monks of the Siddhidatta Kulam and the siplis worked together at Iraivan Temple to fit the sanctum door into place for the first time. This allowed them to properly measure and align everything for the eventual, final installation. It also provided us with an inspiring preview of things to come. Aum.

The first step was for the heavy, teak-wood, bronze-clad doors to be carried into the sanctum

The left-side door was then raised into place

Next, we\

re ready for the right-side door'

With them both in place, teams on the inside and outside of the sanctum work together to position them just right

Image

it\

s a bit of a challenge to hear each other through the doors, and there\'s absolutely no cellular service inside the sanctum.'

Image

The doors must, of course, be as centered as possible

Image

Their pins on which they pivot have to also align with where they will be anchored

Image

Overall the stone door frame has some very slight, \"hand-crafted\" measurements which must be compensated for

Image

Meaning that the doors must be centered as much as possible, with spacing that looks good to the eye, all while fitting within the constrains of their hinges.

While the team inside works on more detailed measurements, the view from the outside is quite stunning
