Rare Peek Inside Iraivan Floor Tile Project

Today was a day off for the busy tile setting team, so we took the opportunity to sneak inside the workspace to see what they've been up to.

Some of their tools are organized in this tent next to Nandi Mandapam

They just finished pouring what they call the \"float\" around three sides of the temple-- a sloped mortar bed on which the granite tiles will be placed so they automatically slant toward the water drains

And we have the first set of granite tiles laid down here in the northeast corner.

The narrow granite strips on the left start at the same level as the large tiles but then slope downwards toward the drain
