Today we celebrate the new year of Vilamba, 5120. Today the Siddhidatta Kulam cooked a glorious South India feast for the monks' lunch.
It's always fun to look back into the 60 year cycle and see what was happening in the last Vilamba, which may or may not give us an idea of what this one has in store. In 1958-early 59: the world was reaching into space for the first time with the sputnik and Explorer missions; color television began its rise; Pizza hut was founded; The hula hoop came to the US; the Beatles had their first recording session; NASA is founded; The nuclear-powered submarine USS Nautilus becomes the first vessel to cross the North Pole under water; The first video game, Tennis for Two, is created; The first transatlantic flight of a Boeing 707 takes place; A soviet expedition become the first to ever reach the Southern Pole of Inaccessibility; The first communication satellite is launched; the European Court of Human Rights is established; and Hawaii is made a US state.
It seems the last Vilamba was a year of new explorations and emerging technologies. We will see if any of that is reflected in this year.
You may have noticed that our Daily Master Course Lessons have started back at number 1. Here is the first Nandinatha Sutra which reminds us what we're all here to do:
Sutra 1 of the Nandinatha Sutras
Life's Highest Purpose
Siva's followers strive for God Realization as the first and foremost goal of life. They learn to dance with Siva, live with Siva, merge with Siva. Deep within, they discover their eternal, immortal oneness with God. Aum.
On that note, we wish you all a wonderful year! Full of successes that bring you joy as well as a hearty helping of challenges, mistakes and failures that bring you wisdom. Aum Namah Sivaya!
